Definition
Reflection is when light bounces off of an object. When light hits a smooth surface, like a mirror, it bounces off in the same direction that it came from. This is called specular reflection. When light hits a rough surface, like a wall, it bounces off in all different directions. This is called diffuse reflection.
We see objects because of reflection. When light bounces off of an object and into our eyes, our brain interprets it as an image. This is how we see ourselves in a mirror, or how we see the trees and the houses around us.
