Propel means to move forward or to cause something to move forward. In science, it can be used to describe how rockets work, or how engines move cars.
For example, a rocket propels itself forward by burning fuel and releasing hot gases out the back. The hot gases create thrust, which pushes the rocket forward.
The rocket propelled the spacecraft into orbit.
Verb: to drive or force something forward.
Noun: the act of propelling something.
The word "propel" comes from the Latin word "propellere", which means "to drive forward".
The first recorded use of the word "propel" in English was in the 14th century.
