Winter is the coldest season of the year. It is when the days are shorter and the nights are longer. The days are shorter because the Earth's axis is tilted away from the Sun. This means that the Sun's rays hit the Earth at a less direct angle, so less sunlight reaches the Earth's surface.
Winter is also the time when snow and ice are most common. Snow is made of frozen water vapour, and it falls from the sky when the temperature is below freezing. Ice is formed when water freezes.
The winter months are cold and snowy.
