Definition
A surface is the outside of an object. It's what you see and touch. The surface of a ball is smooth, but the surface of a tree is rough. The surface of the water is wet, but the surface of the ground is dry.
Some surfaces are hard, like the surface of a table. Other surfaces are soft, like the surface of a pillow. Some surfaces are smooth, like the surface of a mirror. Other surfaces are rough, like the surface of a rock.
The surface of an object can be different from the inside of the object. For example, the surface of a piece of wood may be smooth, but the inside of the wood may be rough.
