Permeable means that something can let water or other liquids pass through it. For example, a sponge is permeable because it lets water soak through it. A rock, on the other hand, is not permeable because water cannot pass through it.
The permeable fabric allowed the water to soak through.
Adjective:
The word "permeable" is derived from the Latin word "permeabilis", which means "capable of being passed through". The first recorded use of the word "permeable" in English was in the 17th century.
