Gastrulation is the process of forming the three germ layers in an embryo. The germ layers are the foundation for all of the tissues and organs in the body.
Gastrulation happens after fertilisation when the sperm fertilises the egg. The fertilised egg, called a zygote, divides into many cells. These cells then rearrange themselves to form the three germ layers: the ectoderm, the mesoderm, and the endoderm.
The ectoderm forms the skin, hair, nervous system, and the lining of the mouth and nose. The mesoderm forms the bones, muscles, blood, and circulatory system. The endoderm forms the digestive system, the respiratory system, and the lining of the bladder.
Gastrulation is a very important process in development. It is the foundation for all of the tissues and organs in the body.
The gastrulation stage of development is critical for the formation of the embryo.
