A controlled experiment is an experiment where you only change one thing at a time.
This helps you to figure out what causes what.
For example, if you want to know how much water a plant needs to grow, you could do a controlled experiment. You would grow two plants, giving one plant a lot of water and the other plant a little water. Then, you would see which plant grows better.
The control experiment showed that the independent variable did not have any effect on the dependent variable.
