We will empower all young people to be global citizens, through a:
Resources: Class presentation.
Handout: The activity sheet contains a planning grid for the students to fill out to plan their video script. It can follow any of the following formats: video diary, news report, climate show or video example for other schools. The video script needs to be reflective and include what has gone well and what has not gone well.
Ask the students: What actions can you take as a school to accelerate action to tackle the climate change crisis? What are carbon offsets?
This lesson explores the most significant ways that large companies and organisations tackle emissions that they have caused. The students have the opportunity to reflect on just how many aspects of these organisations have an impact and draw rational solutions to prevent it continuing to happen.
Career Film: This is Emin Veron. Emin works as a Fuel Performance Scientist for National Nuclear Laboratory.
Expert Film: Cycle2Work from Halfords | Halfords UK
Ask the students to create a business design that represents your school’s eco-commitments. Then, ask them to create a video script which captures your school’s eco-journey so far. What has worked well and what has not worked well? Ask them to present some solutions to what they think does not work well at school.
Challenge task: Ask the students to choose a problem that their campaign will face from the list below-
Using this problem, devise an action plan to create a solution. Consider advice from similar local organisations, attending drop-in sessions, training sessions and support groups as potential solutions.
Ask the students to discuss how they felt when writing their video scripts. Were they pleased with how far their school has come or do they think they have further to go?
