Filming with Nottingham Trent University

It was a pleasure filming today with Dr. Theodore Hughes-Riley; one of my former pupils from Flegg High School. I recall Theodore's passion for science, when as a year 9 pupil, he shared his space research project with me. It was evident then he was destined for great things! Mr Bird and Mr Ohja (who is now the Director of the National Space Centre in Leicester), were fondly mentioned in our memory lane conversation. Mr Ohja's knowledge and passion for science inspired Theodore to pursue his love for the subject and demonstrates the importance and power of embracing a knowledge rich curriculum. It was great to catch up!

I recall accessing some grant funding from The Exchange, for Mr Bird and Mr Ohja to attend a science training camp at the Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Following Mr Ohja's training, he returned back to school and became a space envagelist! The importance and impact of investing in teachers' CPD can never be under estimated; the ripple effect is powerful!

Dr. Theodore Hughes-Riley is the Research Fellow in Energy Harvesting and Management in Textiles at Nottingham Trent University. He is a highly multidisciplinary scientist with a particular focus on experimental physics. In his career, his research has covered a number of disparate fields including technology development for environmental and medical applications. Dr. Hughes-Riley is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
